Facelift surgery in India

The earliest signs of ageing begin to appear on your face, owing to many factors including natural aging process of the body, smoking, sun exposure, exposure to pollutants and weight loss achieved though diet control and /or exercising.

Facelift surgery, also known as rhytidectomy is a very popular facial cosmetic surgery procedure in the world, among men and women to rejuvenate their face and get a youthful appearance. Facelift rejuvenates the lower two third of the face or part of the face below the eyes and is thus combined with other facial procedures such as blepharoplasty, brow lift or rhinoplasty to rejuvenate the whole face. It is usually done with full or partial neck lift to get the desired results. Non surgical procedures such as botox, dermabrasion or dermal fillers may also be combined with facelift plastic surgery.

It is advantageous to get the facelift surgery in India as the cost of facelift surgery in India is much less as compared to the cost of face lift surgery in UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or any other western country- for the same quality of services and with equally skilled surgeons. You would be required to stay at the hospital / clinic for two-three nights for facelift cosmetic surgery which is part of the surgical cost. Another week in India is required before you can fly back to your country. Thus, a total of eight to ten days are required for facelift overseas in India.

Facelift is often asked by men and women after 50, though even young men and women now undergo facelift surgery. The better and recommended procedure for you, if you are under 50, is MACS face lift surgery, which is a lesser invasive procedure.

You are a candidate for face and or neck lift if you have wrinkles, loose skin or excessive fat deposits on your neck, deep nasoloabial lines, deep wrinkles on the cheek or skin sagging near the cheek bones or loss of definition of jawline, you can undergo facelift cosmetic surgery to rejuvenate your face.

The best candidates for facelift are men or women who are emotionally stable, physically healthy, do not smoke or are ready to quit smoking at least 4 weeks before the surgery, have realistic expectations and understand the procedure well.

Facelift is generally performed in a hospital setting under general anaesthesia. An incision is made along the hairline, going down in front of your ears and into the hairline behind your ears. The surgeon makes the incision such that it is well hidden in the natural lines of your face or in the hairline, leaving the scars completely invisible.

After the incision is made, the surgeon carefully separates the skin from the underlying tissue, pulls it backwards and upwards, removes excess fat and sometimes the muscles are also tightened to give a more youthful contour to the face. If required, an incision is also made under the chin to remove fat and tighten the neck muscle.

The surgeon then closes the incisions. Sometimes, small drainage tubes are placed under the skin to drain any fluids that may accumulate for 24 hours. A compressive dressing is placed over the face to support it while the skin heals.

Recovery & Results

The recovery and healing varies from person to person. You may feel low to moderate pain which shall be controlled by medications. You shall be advised by the surgeon to move around to promote blood circulation. You would also be advised to take rest with your head elevated while you lie down to minimize the swelling.

The stitches shall be removed after a week of the surgery. You can resume your daily activities and can wear light makeup after a week of facelift. Exercises and heavy work would have to wait for 4-6 weeks after the surgery. Sun should be avoided for at least 6 weeks after the facelift.

The final results of facelift would be visible after few weeks of the surgery, though you would be able to see the disappearance of wrinkles as soon as the swelling subsides. The facelift plastic surgery gives a fresh, rejuvenated and youthful appearance to your face. You can expect to shed about 15-20 years of age from your face. The results of facelift are long lasting.
